About Judy

I currently live, paint, and teach in Pahrump, Nevada. Although I earned an art degree from University of Houson, I studied for many years on my own as well as with other artists. For example, I studied with Miriam Schulman from NYC and I focused on watercolor portraits and animals. And then I studied with Alain Picard from Massachusetts where I worked with pastels and created some beautiful portraits.

At birth, I was blessed with something more precious than silver or gold: a natural talent to create beautiful works of art.

My love for artistic creativity and playing with paint really blossomed when I was around four years old. Two of my favorite (and very talented) aunts introduced me to the wonderful world of finger painting. The joy I felt when creating my first work of art that consisted of fish swimming in a cool pond stays with me even to this day.

Combining Art and Science

Those who know me, also know about my extreme interest in science and a burning curiosity to know how things work together. This became obvious when I decided to study skincare.

The scientific part came into play when I had to figure out how combining various ingredients would affect the skin. The artistic part came when I was exploring how different color combinations would appear on various skin tones.

In the art world, when working with a variety of paint types I had to research where they originated, their pigments, their strengths and weaknesses, and how they reacted with specific binders. Fascinating stuff!

But that’s not the only way I was able to combine both passions. Over the years, when I wasn't helping men get to the moon at NASA, I was designing electrical systems for refineries around the world or teaching aesthetic students how to revive and protect the skin. Sadly, I had very little time to indulge in my artistic nature while working full-time.

Thank goodness I finally retired in 2013! That gave me the freedom that really freed me from all my time constraints. I’m a whole new woman since I actually have time now to spend on my passion for art.

Painting animals, portraits, and beautiful landscapes in watercolor, acrylics, pastels, pen and ink, and colored pencils are all creative experiences for me that I’m sure you’ll see reflected on this site.

Yes, I’ve come a long way from finger painting fish!

Let’s Learn Together!

At this time in my life, I feel a strong desire to give back to the community by sharing all that I’ve learned.

So my mission now is to share my knowledge and joy with others as they start their journey into the vast world of the arts. One of the things I like to explore are the fears and frustrations many artists feel when working with water media. If that sounds at all familiar, I’d love the opportunity to help you understand and apply all the tips and secrets I’ve learned over the years. In turn, that can help you to overcome your fears and frustrations thus unleashing your inborn creativity.

And that’s not limited to just watercolor. I look forward to exploring all mediums with you. From watercolor and colored pencils to pastels, pen and ink, and acrylic paints, there is much to know, and much to dig into.

Together we can have fun exploring all the color palettes and learn how to apply all the tips and tricks I’ve picked up in my lifetime.

My first online course I’ll teach you how watercolor works and then how to draw without having any defined drawing talent.

I’ll discuss some of the most common mistakes and of course, the many I’ve made. Then we’ll talk about how to avoid them. We’ll also talk about painting “loosely” and how to correct mistakes you couldn’t avoid. Watercolor is not permanent so I can show you several ways to correct it. That will alleviate your fear of watercolor.

Welcome to my artsy fartsy world! I really look forward to working with you soon!
